Physical Distancing:
Thank you to everyone for setting up in the squares on the grass. Everyone is able to enjoy hanging out at Banook and at the same time are maintaining required distances. The sunshades/ tents look great set up 2 metres apart, especially from across the lake!

Paddling Programs
Our paddling programs are going very well, and we are so glad to see everyone out on the lake! Parents, please email your coach if your child will not be at practice – it helps the coaches to know numbers expected for each session.

Dock Area
Now that we are in the full swing of things with our paddling programs, just a reminder to parents/ grandparents that the dock area is for coaches and paddlers. If you wish to watch your child during a paddling session, you are most welcome to head upstairs to the deck to watch.

There are a number of coaches and paddling pods on the dock at the same time, and the coaches are ensuring required distancing from other pods – it makes it more challenging to maintain distancing with parents also on the dock. This also helps keep the paddlers focused on instructions from the coach.

Member Try-a-Boat
Have you watched your kids in a K1 or C1 and wondered if you could do it? Well – here’s your chance! We would like to extend an invitation to members to join us on Thursday evenings for our Member Try-a-Boat session. This will run 6:30 – 7:30 pm every Thursday evening in July and August (depending on the weather). Come see if you have the balance! (Don’t forget your PFD).

and for the EXCITING NEWS!!!!
Return to Competition
On Friday, we received confirmation from ADCKC (Atlantic Division Canoe Kayak Canada) that they were notified of approval from Public Health Nova Scotia to return to competition. This is very exciting news… although national and international competition has been cancelled for 2020, this approval will allow for local racing.

ADCKC is planning a compressed schedule for regattas for this summer. Here is the link to the tentative plan on the ADCKC website. Keep an eye out for further details about upcoming races from the coaches.

Feeling sick?
Just a reminder that if anyone in your house is feeling sick (with any illness), has any symptoms of COVID19 (call 811 for information), has travelled outside the Atlantic bubble in the past 14 days (if you have travelled, you are required to self-isolate for 14 days), or has come in contact with someone with COVID19, you must please stay at home and not visit Banook Canoe Club. If anyone in your household tests positive for COVID19, please advise Banook immediately via email to
