Banook Summer 2020 Update

Posted on by Banook News in

Current as of June 22, 2020

Your volunteer board continues to be extremely busy making preparations to welcome you back to Banook.

As you all know, restrictions are slowly being lifted – and with each change we continue to pivot and adapt. We have drafted multiple plans for what summer will look like – every time we draft a new plan, we are required to meet public health regulations and follow CKC and ADCKC guidelines. We use these parameters to determine how to make our club facilities available to our membership community.

As we try to facilitate a summer as close to our usual expectations as possible under these circumstances, we (as with all sectors of the economy) have run up against some roadblocks. We are determined and committed to offer our members as much as we can, safely and within the parameters of public health and our provincial sport organization.

Summer 2020 will look very different at Banook Canoe Club. We are diligently finalizing our plan to share.

Due to numerous changes and restrictions, we will have very limited availability this summer. Today we are pleased to re-open our registration to the community.

It is important for everyone to understand that all administration for Banook Canoe Club is being handled by a small portion of the volunteer board, and in recent weeks our summer co-op student.

Registration Details

We are using a new registration system, created by Canoe Kayak Canada. Please email banook@banookcanoeclub.com if you need assistance with the registration process.

For the best user experience, we recommend registering via laptop/ desktop computer, instead of a mobile device.

Please read all instructions below as there are a number of changes!

Programming for summer 2020 will look different than it has in previous years as a result of COVID-19 and related Public Health restrictions. We are still finalizing the plan and the daily schedule.

This registration represents what we hope to be able to offer assuming there are no changes to our current requirements and restrictions.  Things may change on short notice.

Unfortunately, swimming lessons won’t be available in this summer. If you have already paid for swimming lessons you will receive a refund.

Also, there will be no non-member weekly day camps. We do not have the space required to offer these camps – we have instead focused on dedicating our facility space to our members.

Extra Fees

During membership registration you will see that we have added a temporary COVID-19 fee. Our costs have significantly increased with only being able to offer limited programming and we are facing a dramatic shortage of other revenue. In the past, our paddling and membership programming was supplemented by hall bookings for weddings/ parties, bookings by external fitness providers, non-member weekly summer camps, after-school program, swimming lessons, etc. All of those other revenue sources are currently suspended or cancelled.

We have removed the Volunteer fee for 2020. We will still rely on our members to volunteer at our club this year. The temporary COVID-19 fee will not increase out of pocket costs for members.

CKC/ADCKC fees are added to all paddling programs. These fees go directly to CKC and ADCKC to provide lake supervision, some insurance coverage, and club representation with our PSO (Provincial Sport Organization) and NSO (National Sport Organization). This fee will automatically be added to everyone who registers for paddling programs.
