Atlantic Championships (2019 Nationals Qualifying weekend)

Posted on by Banook News in

The weekend of August 2, 3, 4 brought some exciting races to Lake Banook. The best athletes from the Atlantic Division lined up at the start line to race down the course over 200m, 500m, 1000m and 6k.

We had some amazing performances from Banook athletes who were giving it their all to place top of the Atlantic Division and ultimately qualify for slots in the Canadian National Championships. We had a number of top 4 finishes over the weekend (and we are especially proud of the Banook athletes who are Atlantic Champions after placing first in their events over the weekend)!

The top 4 in each race earned coveted Atlantic Division slots in the events at Nationals, happening August 27-31 in Regina, Saskatchewan. Nationals are the culmination of the racing season for our U16 and older athletes. Each paddler can compete and qualify in a maximum of 8 events – with heats and finals this meant many of our Banook athletes competed in 12-16 races over the weekend! Wow!

We are very excited that 20 of our own Banook athletes (with their families) will soon leave for Regina – we wish them all the best of luck – we will be closely following along and cheering them on. We are all hoping to see Banook athletes in podium pictures from Regina, winning Canadian National Championship medals. Go Banook Go!
